The Department of Theatre & Dance at the University at Buffalo,
www.theatredance.buffalo.edu, invites applications for a tenure-track
Assistant Professor of Dance Studies. We seek a dance scholar who will
maintain a robust research agenda and establish themselves as a leader
and innovator in the field. This individual will significantly
contribute teaching expertise to our graduate study and undergraduate
Dance programs and will actively participate in ongoing curriculum
development, including the design and implementation of a new MFA Dance
program.

Minimum requirements: Ph.D. in Dance Studies, Performance Studies, or
related field; and college teaching experience. Candidates with an MFA
degree will be considered if background is well matched to the
responsibilities of the position.

Specialization is open, but we are particularly interested in candidates
whose research focuses on the integration of theory and practice;
embodied inquiry; and/or social, cultural and/or global perspectives.
Our new colleague will teach a regular course load (4 per year),
including history and theory, with opportunities to develop courses in
the candidate's area of specialization. Individuals with additional
expertise in teaching studio courses are highly encouraged to apply. All
Dance faculty mentor student research and creative activities;
contribute to departmental dance concerts as director or choreographer;
and provide service to the department or university as appropriate. We
strongly encourage applicants who will enhance the diversity of the
University at Buffalo through their research, teaching, and service.

UB Theatre & Dance is a hub for interdisciplinary arts activity at the
university, intersecting with Music, Visual Studies, Media Study,
Architecture, and Poetry among others. UB Dance, housed in the Center
for the Arts, produces 4-6 concerts each year in the Drama and Blackbox
Theaters as well as in the Katherine Cornell Theater and Slee Hall. UB
Dance also maintains partnerships with University entities, including
the Technē Institute for Arts and Emerging Technologies, the Center for
21st Century Music and the Electronic Poetry Center; and non-university
entities including Lehrer Dance, Buffalo Public Schools, and Dance
Masters of America. The University at Buffalo is one of four SUNY
Research Institutions and has over 30,000 students.

Buffalo, NY is a vibrant arts and cultural center that includes over
twenty theatres, several professional and community dance organizations,
and numerous art galleries. It is home to well-known organizations,
including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Albright-Knox Art
Gallery, ArtPark, Squeaky Wheel Media Arts Center, Hallwalls
Contemporary Arts Center, Just Buffalo Literary Center, Burchfield
Penney Art Center and more. Buffalo is centrally located, with easy
access to major metropolitan hubs in the Northeast including New York
City, Boston, Chicago, Toronto and Montreal. Located on Lake Erie, just
south of Niagara Falls, Buffalo's surrounding natural areas, state
parks, beaches, rivers and ski areas provide abundant opportunities for
outdoor recreation and leisure.
