Appointment beginning July 2015
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Qualifications: Terminal degree in Dance, Dance Education, or Arts Education with significant experience teaching dance in K-12 schools and teacher certification in North Carolina or the ability to become certified. Experience designing and implementing professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers and teaching lecture/seminar and clinical courses at the university level desired.

Additional Experience: The successful candidate will teach one or more of the following: improvisation, choreography, concert dance technique, traditional dance forms, Music for Dancers, and/or Anatomy for Dancers. They will be familiar with state standards in K-12 Dance, lesson plan design, and national initiatives in education. Certification in Laban Movement Analysis (CMA) or somatic practices a plus.

Primary Responsibilities: The individual will continue to develop a distinguished research record and teaching agenda and be an active participant in the multiple service responsibilities of a busy faculty. Teaching responsibilities include undergraduate and impending graduate methods classes in dance education, other dance courses, and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students in field experiences. While many research agendas are possible in this position, scholarship of teaching and learning, especially action-based research, might be especially productive.

Setting: The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas. UNC Charlotte offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs to over 25,000 culturally diverse students.

Department: The Department has a full-time faculty of 9 and hires many part-time guest artists and accompanists. There are approximately 100 Dance majors and 40 minors. The program offers a B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Performance, Choreography and Theory, a concentration in Dance Education, and a minor in Dance. The Department maintains relationships with local and regional professional companies including Charlotte Ballet. Facilities include a 340-seat theatre, 2 dance studios, and a dance lab equipped for performances.
