Department Chairperson - Theatre and Dance Appalachian State University

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Appalachian State University invites applications for a Department Chair, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor beginning July 2015.  The Chair will provide energetic and visionary leadership, promote quality undergraduate teaching, encourage and support faculty scholarship, oversee and support a vigorous, nationally accredited co-curricular production program, foster strong links to the university community and community-at-large and actively seek the resources necessary to continue expanding the department. The new chair is expected to maintain productive scholarship and teach one class per semester, administer and manage the academic unit and lead in departmental personnel matters.

 

The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in an appropriate field, arts and educational administration experience, extensive knowledge of both theatre and dance disciplines, record of professional creative activity and/or scholarship, excellent communication and management skills. Experience with grant writing and diversity issues is preferred.

 

The Department of Theatre and Dance provides liberal arts educations with BA degrees in Dance Studies and Theatre Arts. The department offers Theatre concentrations in Performance, Design /Technology, and Theatre Education as well as minors in theatre or dance. Central to the departments mission is a dynamic co-curricular production program that provides exemplary theatre and dance experiences to students, the university community and the region. The department strongly supports the university's liberal arts environment through a balanced and integrated emphasis on teaching, creative activity, scholarship, and service. The department employs more than 39 faculty and staff, including 22 full time faculty.

 

Appalachian State University is a member institution of the sixteen-campus University of North Carolina. Located in Boone, North Carolina, the university has approximately 18,000 students, primarily in bachelors and masters programs in both liberal arts and applied fields.
