Assistant Professor of Dance, Tenure-Track, SUNY College at Brockport



Description of Position: Candidates for Assistant Professor of Dance in the Department of Dance at the College at Brockport are active dance professionals who teach a current movement practice such as contemporary dance, jazz and/or hip hop. That practice will enhance the modern-dance emphasis of the department at all levels of the graduate and undergraduate programs. Candidates should also demonstrate expertise in at least one other curricular area (such as dance pedagogy; movement analysis and somatics; dance technology). Candidates should have an active research agenda, demonstrated by scholarly and/or creative activity. This is a tenure-track position. Visit us on the web at www.brockport.edu/dance.



Essential functions of the position include:

-Teach current movement practice (e.g. contemporary dance; hip hop; jazz dance).

-Teach in an additional curriculum area (e.g. dance pedagogy, movement analysis, somatics; dance technology).

-Maintain a high level of creative and/or scholarly activity.

-Advise students, participate actively in departmental governance and perform academic service.



Required Qualifications:

-Teaching excellence in current movement practice and in an additional curricular area of stated expertise.

-Record of dance related creative and/or scholarly research.

-Terminal degree in dance (completed by August 2015).

-Teaching experience in higher education.



Preferred Qualifications:

-Teaching experience working with college-level dance majors.

-Full-time college teaching experience.

-Nationally-recognized record of dance-related creative and/or scholarly accomplishments.
