Full-time, tenure track position available fall 2015, pending budgetary approval.


QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold an MFA in Dance or commensurate professional experience and have professional performance/choreography experience with a major dance company, college level teaching experience, and a commitment to pre-professional dance training within the context of a liberal arts education.  Areas of expertise include professional experience as a modern dance choreographer and undergraduate teaching experience in composition, student choreography, performance techniques, and improvisation. Accomplishments with current media and technological practices for dance are highly desirable. Secondary areas of expertise could include producing for dance, technical production, modern or ballet technique, rhythmic and musical training, and somatic practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching composition courses and mentoring students in their choreography projects; successful pursuit of a scholarly/creative agenda; and academic advisement, college-wide service, curriculum development, assisting with departmental initiatives, and student recruitment.  


The Marymount Manhattan College Dance Department enrolls over 200 BFA and BA majors and also offers a Dance Minor. The curriculum includes a broad range of dance techniques preparing graduates to perform in diverse venues from ballet to musical theatre, and supplements technical training with several areas of concentration.  The Department is home to eight full-time faculty, over 30 part-time faculty, two full-time staff, and a wardrobe supervisor.  The Department recruits nationally and internationally, and MMC alumni dance with professional modern, ballet, and contemporary dance companies, on and off Broadway, on national tours, in film and television, and as back-up dancers for world-renown singers, and work as costumers, designers, teachers, administrators, and dance and physical therapists.
