Full-Time Lecturer Position in Dance/Ballet Specialization

The University of Iowa Department of Dance invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in Dance with a specialization in Ballet to begin in Fall 2015. We seek candidates of distinguished artistic achievement who possess demonstrable leadership and administrative abilities. Duties will include teaching all levels of ballet technique (beginning to advanced), choreography, pointe, partnering, and ballet pedagogy. There may also be opportunities to contribute to the delivery of other dance courses given the candidate’s areas of expertise and departmental needs. Other duties include undergraduate student advising and attending to departmental and university service assignments, and may include sitting on administrative committees, mentoring undergraduate and graduate creative and/or scholarly research, and directing the student touring and outreach company. Candidates who are actively conducting choreographic creative research will be preferred.

Required qualifications: MFA degree (must be complete by August 19, 2015) and substantial professional experience/expertise in ballet techniques, ballet pedagogy in theory and practice, and choreography, as well as one or more of the following: partnering, somatics, world dance forms, jazz or hip-hop dance, or dance technology. Desired qualifications include: university-level teaching experience and demonstrated understanding of and informed perspective on curricular design and administration; professional links to a variety of dance networks and organizations; general IT proficiency.
