Whitman College - Visiting Assistant Professor

The Department of Theatre and Dance at Whitman College seeks a one-semester Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance, effective January 2016. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in Dance Composition, Modern/Contemporary Dance and one of the following: Dance Kinesiology, Introduction to Dance, Improvisation, Alexander Technique and/or a non-Western or African diaspora form. Qualifications: MFA in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance Studies or related field and teaching experience at the college level.

All applications must include the following materials: letter of application, a statement addressing the candidate’s teaching interests, curriculum vitae, three letters of reference, graduate transcripts, teaching evaluations or other evidence of demonstrated excellence in undergraduate instruction, and an online link to three examples of recent choreographic works.

The application should address the candidate’s interest in working at a liberal arts college with undergraduate non-majors at all levels of instruction. In addition, because Whitman College is committed to cultivating a diverse learning community, the applicant should explain how his or her pedagogy serves to create and sustain an inclusive learning environment.
