Position: The Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University invites applications for Assistant Professor of Dance, a tenure-track position, starting August 15, 2015.


This position requires a professional artist with a national/international performing, teaching, creative and/or scholarly profile. The successful candidate will have expertise and experience teaching at the university level with a demonstrated commitment towards training young dancers towards a diverse marketplace.


Responsibilities: Must be able to teach at least one of the following forms at all levels: ballet, jazz, modern, and/or contemporary. Must also be able to teach at least one of the following: cross-cultural dance studies, dance history, composition, improvisation, somatic practice, dance science, dance technology, and/or dance entrepreneurship. There are also opportunities to teach in other areas of specialization.


Principal duties also include teaching, staging or choreographing works, serving on departmental and university committees and significant advising on both academic and career goals.


Qualifications: An MFA in Dance, Choreography or related terminal degree, is required by the end of the third year of the appointment. A minimum of 3 years of university teaching experience and five years of professional dance experience is required. The candidate will demonstrate continued creative and professional activity as a requirement for successful retention, tenure and promotion. Successful candidates will be able to articulate how current trends in the dance industry and art form can positively intersect with conservatory training to help drive dance department curricula and goals towards producing highly skilled dance artists.
