Responsibilities:

  • Teach all levels of dance technique and composition classes. Technique in varied dance genres with emphasis on ballet. May include modern/contemporary, jazz, and/or non-western forms.
  • Teach 24 credit hours of classes per academic year plus the equivalent of 3 credit hours or more of institutional service as defined by the department and school.
  • Teach upper division courses including Dance History, Dance Pedagogy, Movement Analysis, and/or Kinesiology for Dancers.
  • Regularly teach in the University General Education curriculum.
  • Assist the Artistic Director of Dixie State Dance Company directing the dance productions
  • Choreograph for dance productions.
  • Serve as an academic, choreographic and artistic mentor to students.
  • Attend production and other meetings as required. Participate in tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals and other performance activities as assigned.
  • Fulfill faculty responsibilities including participating in department events and committee meetings, holding regular office hours, and advising students.
  • Ability to adapt courses to current technology and possibly teach in an online or hybrid learning environment.

 Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree (doctorate or MFA) in Dance required, PhD preferred
  • Experience of professional performance and choreography
  • Teaching experience in college/university setting
  • Demonstrated ability of successfully teaching college courses (finalists will be required to demonstrate competence in a teaching module)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dance production and choreography
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully as a member of a production team and as a member of an academic program
  • Ability to operate contemporary computer programs, and a willingness to be trained in computer applications
  • Ability to employ various communication technologies during teaching responsibilities
  • Ability and willingness to participate in university and departmental student recruitment and retention initiatives
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff and colleagues, both orally and in writing
  • An eagerness to engage with faculty, staff and administrators to develop ways to improve the educational experience of students

  Terms of Contract:  Tenure track (9 month) faculty position.  Salary is based on nationally competitive Dixie State University faculty salary schedule.  Excellent benefits package included.
