Description:The Department of Dance seeks an Instructor or Assistant Professor in Dance (title is commensurate with experience or terminal degree) from the professional dance world with primary expertise in the teaching of ballet and/or modern dance techniques.  Position begins August 2015. Qualifications:Candidates with terminal degrees are preferred. Those candidates without degrees but having exceptional credentials and experience in the professional dance world may be considered. Candidates should have performance experience working with established ballet or modern dance companies as well as experience teaching ballet and/or modern dance technique from fundamental through advanced/pre-professional levels, especially in a college or university setting.  Qualified candidates should have familiarity with the range of dance programming possible in a liberal arts college. 

Duties: Responsibilities will include: teaching ballet and/or modern dance technique classes (elementary and combined intermediate/advanced), as well as classes in pointe and variations. An introductory partnering class could also be offered. Additionally, this instructor will choreograph or stage repertory for annual performances. Candidates should also have experience teaching in three of the following areas: ballroom, ballet/modern dance pedagogy, character dance, folk dance, hip hop, dance and culture, arts management, body/somatic therapies or special topics.

Additional Duties include:

  • Serving as a member of the BFA Colloquium with students      and faculty from the sister arts (studio art, creative writing, music and      theatre).
  • Assisting in the recruitment of student dancers
  • Assisting in rehearsals/productions
  • Evaluating, grading and assessing students
  • Representing the Department of Dance within the college      and community
  • Assisting with responsibilities related to the Helen      McGehee Visiting Artist Program in Dance.
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary: Commensurate with experience
