Belhaven University, a Christian university committed to the ministry of integrating biblical truth and learning, is searching for the ideal candidate for Assistant or Associate Professor and Chair of Dance who has a heart for Christ Jesus and students at the Jackson, Mississippi campus.

Responsibilities include providing leadership and vision to the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Department of Dance, facilitating a strong working relationship between the Dean of Fine Arts, university administration and the department of dance. As Chair, this person will mentor faculty and students, supervise curriculum development, implement strategic marketing and recruitment and oversee the department budget. The candidate will be expected to assist with coordinating dance productions and performances. The Chair have a part time teaching load in undergraduate and/or graduate courses such as dance technique, pedagogy, choreography, dance ministry, and improvisation as well as in areas of individual expertise.

Required qualifications: MFA or PhD in Dance or dance-related field is required. University teaching experience is required. Candidate should be a teaching artist with a technical background in concert dance, modern technique preferred. 

Preferred qualifications: ideal candidates will have an established record of academic and administrative success in higher education and a national and/or international professional reputation as a dance scholar or artist. Applicants must be able to fully support the University vision, mission and statement of faith and contribute to the spiritual and academic fellowship of the University. 

Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University supplements major medical insurance. A 403b retirement plan is available for eligible employees to contribute pre-tax dollars with Belhaven University matching up to 8% of annual salary.
