Lecturer - Music Director for Dance

Primary Responsibilities and Abilities:

The successful candidate for this position will:

• Accompany and coordinate other accompanists for dance technique and style courses, including modern dance, ballet, West African, and vintage jazz.
• Collaborate with choreographers on creating music for faculty and student performances, including composing original music.
• Develop and teach music courses as needed, potentially including music theory and music technology for dancers, choreographers, and dance educators.

Desirable Additional Attributes:
• Experience teaching in an educational or university setting.
• Ability to improvise for jazz and modern dance classes.
• Understanding of dance terminology and ballet music repertoire.

Additional Responsibilities
• Participate in dance faculty committees.

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. 

Master of Arts, Master of Music, or Master of Fine Arts in Music, Composition, or related area. Experience accompanying dance. Consideration may be given to well-qualified candidates with Bachelor’s degrees and extensive experience accompanying dance classes.

-Experience teaching in an educational or university setting.
-Ability to improvise for jazz and modern dance classes.
-Understanding of dance terminology and ballet music repertoire.
