Reed College Dance Department Visiting Position in Dance

The Reed College Dance Department invites applications for a half-time, one-year visiting position in Dance, beginning Fall 2017. Salary is competitive, including benefits and support for travel and research. Though the position is focused in dance technique, choreography, and performance, our pedagogy emphasizes the integration of theory and practice; the ideal candidate would seek to contextualize studio activities with discussions and assignments that make use of related readings, viewings, and other source materials.

The successful candidate would teach three courses over two semesters, including contemporary technique, choreography, and a course in the appointee’s area of interest. We especially encourage candidates who have expertise beyond the Western concert tradition, especially in African diasporic or Latin American dance practices, who can also address contemporary concert dance. As a small, collaborative department, members of the dance faculty also contribute to the supervision of senior thesis projects as well as the production of performances and events with students and visiting artists. Above all, we seek candidates with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, a lively artistic and intellectual engagement with the field, and an interest in contributing to a vital and diverse curriculum. Ideal candidates will have Ph.D. in hand or A.B.D. by the start of the appointment, or will have an M.F.A. and an extensive professional background.
