    The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the public flagship university of the state and one of the world’s preeminent research universities, seeks a dean for its highly recognized School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD). The SMTD combines and integrates the advantages of a performing arts conservatory with those of a leading research university, offering teaching and performance opportunities from the undergraduate through doctoral levels in a comprehensive range of coursework that spans the fields of music, theatre, and dance (including opera and musical theatre), as well as strong interdisciplinary initiatives with many of the university’s other 18 schools and colleges.     The new dean will provide vigorous artistic and academic leadership to the SMTD, bringing the school together around a vision for the optimal SMTD of the future. The dean is the chief executive and academic officer of the school, overseeing its academic programs and policies, stewarding the school’s financial, capital, and human resources, and playing a prominent role in fund raising and external relations.     Successful candidates should be nationally recognized artists and scholars whose active and distinguished professional records include some combination of performance, teaching, research, and leadership in the performing arts.     About the Department 

    The Department of Dance at The Ohio State University consistently ranks as one of the top programs in the country. We provide intersecting investigations in the field of dance, with courses in movement practices, somatics, choreography, repertory, dance history, production and lighting, Labanotation and Laban studies, dance pedagogy, dance related technologies, dance documentation, theory and analysis. We view the breadth of our program as both appropriate to the academic setting and as responsible practice, educating students in a comprehensive way within the lively discourse of a major research university, and providing multiple avenues toward future careers within an evolving field. Our department is staffed by 14 tenure-track faculty, adjunct educators, guest artists, visiting scholars, and 15 graduate associates. We serve 90 undergraduates in the BFA program, 35 graduate students in MFA or PhD programs, 200 dance minors, and 500 students each semester in the non-major program. Our newly renovated facilities in historic Sullivant Hall feature state-of-the-art, flexible performance spaces, six studios, classrooms, a costume shop, and a media lab. New neighbors within the building include the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library, The Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD), and the Department of Arts Administration, Education and Policy. Situated at the gateway of the university’s campus, this new vantage provides an expansive view of the university’s evolving Arts District, which includes Mershon Auditorium and the Wexner Center for the Arts.

    Assistant Professor – Ethnomusicology 

    The Department of Music at the University of California Riverside invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment in ethnomusicology (open specialization) with an expected start date of July 1, 2015. We seek a dynamic scholar of the highest intellectual, creative, and pedagogical potential to contribute to an active and expanding department that includes a vibrant PhD program, dual undergraduate majors in Music and Music and Culture, and a variety of performance ensembles. The successful candidate’s research and teaching specializations will complement and/or extend existing program strengths in Southeast Asian, Asian American, and Latin American musics, while also enhancing interdisciplinary connections with other UCR programs including Anthropology, Dance, Media and Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Studies. A commitment to ethnography with significant fieldwork experience, expertise in contemporary cultural theory (broadly defined), and a demonstrated interest in emerging subfields such as sound studies and popular music studies are all desirable. 

    DUTIES: Establish a record of professional excellence through innovative scholarship and publication; teach diverse interdisciplinary music courses, including broad undergraduate surveys, focused courses in the area of specialization, and graduate seminars targeting contemporary topical, theoretical, and methodological issues in ethnomusicology; mentor theses and dissertations; and service, including advising, committee membership, and public outreach.

    Open Rank Professor of Performance Theory and Practice

     

    The Department of Performance Studies at Texas A&M University, College Station seeks a tenured or tenure-track professor of performance theory and practice. Candidates will have a research program in performance studies with an emphasis in performance praxis (dramaturgy, directing, movement/dance, etc.). We seek candidates with a deep commitment to merging performance theory and practice as well as knowledge of theatre/performance history, contemporary performance praxis, and interdisciplinary approaches to performance research.     Areas of focus may include activist performance, experimental performance, community-based performance, devised performance, performance history, or performance theory.     Grand Valley State University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Department of Music and Dance, invites applications for a full time tenure track faculty position in Dance to begin August, 2015. We seek a highly motivated individual with exceptional communication and inter-personal skills coupled with extensive experience in dance performance and pedagogy. A terminal degree in Dance, or a related Dance discipline, as well as significant experience as a teacher at the college/university level is required. ABD candidates, who are otherwise exceptionally qualified, may be considered for an interim appointment at the Instructor rank. Evidence of past or the potential for future achievements leading to national recognition as a performance artist, choreographer and scholar is required. 

    Duties will include teaching all levels of modern, history, and composition
    and two or more of the following: ballet, jazz, pedagogy, kinesiology, dance technology, dance production, or improvisation. The position will require the individual to choreograph for department concerts and productions; mentor and advise student dancers and choreographers; and participate in the administrative and performance life of the Department of Music and Dance. All members of the Department of Music and Dance are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and be active in performance, research or other creative endeavors.

    Required Qualifications are:
    (a)    Preferably, MFA or professional training to an equivalent level.
    (b)    Significant and proven professional experience in the postholder's areas of theatre specialism, especially in costume shop management and leadership.
    (c)    Teaching experience at post-graduate or graduate level desirable.

    TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
    Appointment will be on a two-year contract, with possibility of renewal, subject to mutual agreement.  A gratuity payment equal up to 15% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be payable upon satisfactory completion of contract.  Fringe benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits.  Housing subsidy will be provided to the eligible appointee.  The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is 15%.

Responsibilities will include teaching dance history and theory from a global perspective. Scholar/artists with performance and significant dance teaching experience are especially welcome to apply.     The department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies at Brown University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor with a theatre, dance, or performance studies Ph.D. to join a vibrant department that emphasizes the intersections of scholarship and practice. Areas of specialty are open, but may include dance studies, non-Western performance, transnational studies, and queer studies. 

    Qualifications

    Candidates should have a strong record of professional activity and a commitment to publication, as well as a commitment to and demonstrated excellence in teaching. The ability to teach courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels is a plus but not required.
