Dear Colleagues and Friends,
As the incoming President, I bring you news about changes taking place in the Congress on Research in Dance with important dates you will want to put on your calendar.
First, I would like to thank Ray for the excellent job he has done as President. He has thoughtfully and tirelessly guided us through a major transition from the SUNY/Brockport to Prime Management. Luckily he is assuming the position of past president which means he will never be far away from providing thoughts, guidance and advice. Thank-you Ray!!
I would also like to thank those members of the board--Paul, Janice, Gigi, Kista and Freya—whose terms are completed as of this year. Your support and ideas have had a major impact on this year of transition.
As a result of this transition, CORD is now positioned to focus attention on its mission to contribute to the advancement of research in all aspects of dance, to foster an international exchange of ideas, resources and methodology and to contribute the development of archival resources on dance.
Website
We are pleased to announce the launch of the new interactive, CORD website. The site will prove to become a portal to the dance community. Through the new site, you will be able to pay for membership and register for conferences. We invite you to visit the site and help us to promote the field of dance research.
Conferences
CORD is very pleased to sponsor the upcoming 2008 conference, November 14-16 at Hollins University titled “Dance Studies and Global Feminism” with key note speaker Trinh Minh-ha. In June 26-27, 2009 there will be a focus on pedagogy at The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Performance Arts De Montfort University, Leicester, UK titled “Global perspectives on dance pedagogy -research and practice.” I will have news of the site for the 2010 conference this fall. Also, we are still looking for locations for conferences following 2010. If you have suggestions, please contact Juliet McMains at mcmains@u.washington.edu. Juliet and the conference committee have revised the guidelines to provide an organizational structure that is user friendly.
