Dear Colleagues,
I hope this e-mail finds you engaging in some exciting research project, traveling with friends and family or just enjoying the change of pace that summer brings. I write to update you on several aspects of CORD.
Elections
Thank you to all for participating in the recent CORD election. I am pleased to announce that Juliet McMains has been elected to become CORD’s new secretary and that Eric Handman, Sally Sommer, Henry Spiller, Maura Donahue, and Helen Thomas, and Judith Hamera have been elected to the board. The newly elected board members join a group that includes Patrick Alcedo, Maura Keefe, Hari Krishnan, SanSan Kwan, Danielle Robinson, Claire Rousier, Karen Schaffman, Karen Vedel, Clare Croft and Michael Huxley, Editorial Board Chair. The CORD board will be meeting in New York in November and I encourage you to contact these board members with any ideas you would like to bring to the board’s attention.
There are also several members of the Board who have contributed a great deal to CORD’s evolution who are rotating off the board. They include past president Ray Miller, Secretary Candace Feck, and Chair of Awards Committee Norton Owen, organizer of Hollins conference Ananya Chatterjea and board member Fred Lamp. Each has made important contributions to CORD's evolution and development for which I am deeply grateful. In particular, I want to note the leadership that Ray Miller and Candace Feck provided in the move of the CORD office from SUNY/Brockport to Prime Management, Norton Owen’s organization of the move of the CORD archives to the New York Public Library and Ananya Chatterjea's collaboration with Donna Faye Burchfield and Thomas Defrantz in the 2008 Hollins Conference. Thank-you to each one of them!!!
Awards Committee
Patrick Alcedo has agreed to become the Chair of the Awards Committee. He can be reached at alcedo@yorku.ca. Please contact him if you have suggestions regarding the awards, information can be found at: http://www.cordance.org/awards
Conferences
Michael Huxley, the Chair of “Global Perspectives on Dance Pedagogy: Research and Theory at De Montfort University” reports that this was a very successful conference that included 170 presentations on the topic. Congratulations to Michael, the team at De Montfort and to the conference participants.
Juliet McMains, current Chair of the Conference Committee reports that the joint conference with ASTR in November of 2010 that will be co-chaired by Nadine George and Anthea Kraut will be announcing a call for papers this fall. Please watch for the call and in particular note the opportunity to develop a focused seminar or working group.
